Philosophy Major/Minor

MAJORING IN PHILOSOPHY

To complete a BA with a major in Philosophy, students must complete a minimum of 52 credit points in Philosophy subjects, of which at least 16 credit points are 200-level and at least 24 credit points are 300-level PHIL subjects. A minor in Philosophy requires at least 28 credit points, at least 16 of which are from the 200 or 300-level. For a strong background in Philosophy, students are encouraged to complete more than these minimum requirements, especially if they are considering continuing on at the Honours or Post-graduate levels.

Our Philosophy subjects can be roughly divided into two streams: Ethics & Political Philosophy and Science, Mind & Language. Students are free to concentrate on either stream, or to choose a combination of subjects from both. However, we recommend that all students majoring in Philosophy complete at least one subject from each stream.
