Philosophy at the University of Wollongong

Philosophy @ University of Wollongong

WELCOME to the website for the Philosophy program at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia. UOW is currently advertising for a Professor in Philosophy. If you’re interested in applying, read more here.

Philosophers at UOW work in a variety of areas of contemporary philosophy, including political philosophy, applied ethics, philosophy of mind and cognition, and philosophy of science. The Australian Research Council recently rated Philosophy at UOW as a 4 for work ‘above world standard’ in their review of research quality across Australian universities. This put Philosophy at UOW in the same rank as Philosophy at other prominent Australian universities, including Melbourne, Monash, and UNSW. In fact, only ANU and Sydney earned higher scores.

In addition to a wide range of undergraduate subjects, we offer expert supervision at the honours and postgraduate levels. We are engaged in research projects with a variety of national and international partners, and regularly host workshops and conferences. During the Autumn and Spring sessions, we also host a fortnightly seminar series with invited speakers from around Australia and abroad. Recent visitors to our workshops and seminar series include Brie Gertler, Paul Griffiths, Peter Menzies, Thomas Pogge, John Sutton, Kim Sterelny, Karola Stotz, and Ralph Wedgwood.
